Abstract:

“The Chinese Pre-Service Teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Scale (CTPCK; Sang et al., 2016) is a measure with items adapted from the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) survey in Singapore (Chai, Ng, et al., 2013). In that study, the survey instruments developed by Schmidt et al. (2009) and Koh et al. (2010) were selected to analyse Singaporean teachers’ content knowledge (CK) with respect to teaching subject variation. Chai and colleagues created 13 items to substitute for the pedagogical knowledge (PK) items in the Schmidt et al. (2009) survey to better address information and communication technology (ICT) courses’ pedagogical emphasis. After an exploratory factor analysis, the CTPCK scale excluded six items and included eight factors with 42 items. The eight factors are: content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, technological knowledge, technological pedagogical knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, technological content knowledge, World Wide Web knowledge, and technological pedagogical content knowledge. Based upon their findings, the authors deemed the CTPCK scale to be a valid and reliable instrument for measuring the TPACK of Chinese pre-service teachers’ knowledge with or without linking educational technology.”
