Abstract:

“A study was conducted among the Art and Design Education undergraduates at Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to find out their readiness to use e-Learning in Visual Art Education (VAE). This paper discusses the use of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to describe students’ readiness towards e-Learning through their understanding of technology and pedagogical content knowledge. The data were gathered from 27 final year students in the Art and Design Education programme. A set of questionnaire was distributed to determine the readiness and ability of the undergraduates to adopt the new technological approach in the teaching and learning of VAE. The questionnaire measured their technology knowledge (TK), content knowledge (CK) and technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK). The overall findings on TK showed that the students can learn with technology easily and have technical skills needed to use technology in the teaching and learning of VAE. Majority of the students agreed that they have sufficient CK and could think of various ways of using technology to develop understanding of VAE. Based on students’ TPK, the results showed a significant finding towards their ability to adapt technology in the teaching and learning activities. The findings in this study clearly revealed that TPACK is a good platform to measure students’ readiness towards using technology in the teaching and learning of VAE. As a conclusion, the findings showed that the undergraduates were ready to use technology in their teaching and learning purposes.”
